Shipbuilder: Garthun Wall, North Shields (1812 - 1829)

Shipbuilder: Thomas Murray Wall, Low Lights, North Shields (1819 - 1826)

On 2nd February 1825 a tremendous hurricane struck the Tyne and the greatest sufferer was the shipbuilder Wall, at the Low Lights. The sea smashed the quay in front of the yard and swept away two vessels on the stocks. A timbered and partly planked brig of 120tons was completely wrecked and even though a nearly finished sloop was saved, the estimated loss was nearly £700.
