Comments: At a late stage the owner insisted on a spar deck being built above the main deck
The builders were obliged to carry out this modification
150 tons of pig iron was needed near the keel to maintain stability
The result was an very unsatisfactory performance in a seaway
1853: The owner relented and the modifications were removed
