Comments: Purchased as the nearly complete BUENO VENTURA.
She had been built by The Defence Vessel Construction Co of Erith on the Thames which was declared bankrupt in November 1890. She lay at her engine builders on the Tyne awaiting sale.
BUENO VENTURA was purchased by Armstrong Mitchell on 22/07/1891 and pulled up onto a slipway to be modified to increase her speed and seakeeping. Her second launching was 26/07/1892.
She was launched as AURORA and after completion awaited sale to a customer. Purchased by the Brazilian Government in October 1893 and renamed GUSTAVO SAMPAIO
